Identify the odour
Determine the source, chemical family and relevant mixture of odorants.
ODOREX™ approaches odour control at molecular level, using carefully selected active systems designed to interact with particular odour-causing compounds instead of simply masking them.
↗Explore the technologyConventional air fresheners mainly add pleasant-smelling compounds to compete with an unwanted odour. ODOREX™ aims to act on selected odorants themselves through reactive, application-specific active molecules.
The goal is to reduce the perception of unwanted odours by addressing their molecular causes, rather than depending solely on masking.
Unwanted odours originate from different chemical families. No single neutralizer reacts effectively with every odorant, so the relevant target compounds and the operating environment must be considered when designing a solution.
Simplified conceptual representation of a proposed gas-phase neutralization mechanism; effectiveness depends on chemistry, concentration and conditions.
Determine the source, chemical family and relevant mixture of odorants.
Choose an appropriate neutralization chemistry and compatible olfactory character.
Adapt the format and release to the intensity, recurrence and environment of the odour.
For odours resulting from isolated events, targeted application formats such as sprays may be appropriate.
For recurring odour sources, a delivery system that releases suitable neutralizing actives over time may be preferable.
An unwanted odour is usually a mixture of volatile compounds, rather than a single identifiable molecule. Different environments can contain very different chemical families and combinations: for example, food-related odours, perspiration, sanitary environments and industrial operations do not present the same target compounds.
The chemistry suitable for one odour family may have little effect on another. Developing an effective neutralization system therefore starts with understanding the source, the surrounding environment and whether the problem is occasional or continuously regenerated.
ODOREX™ is consequently better understood as a targeted development platform than as one formula intended to remove all smells under all circumstances. Results must be assessed against the actual odour mixture, concentration, air exchange and deployment conditions.
For isolated incidents, a spray or other localized delivery format may provide a practical method for bringing selected active molecules into contact with the unwanted odour.
Persistent odour sources may benefit from delivery systems intended to release actives progressively, with airflow and placement considered in the installation.
Selected solutions may combine neutralizing functionality with a discreet olfactory signature. Fragrance can be part of the functional system and not merely an additional perfume.
Fragrance components can play a functional role within a selected neutralization formula, not merely an aesthetic one. A subtle pleasant olfactory profile can also help signal the presence and distribution of the product.
ODOREX™ solutions are tailored to particular odour situations; formulation compatibility and effectiveness require application-specific testing.
Our development process begins with a clear understanding of the odour source, use environment and expected performance. Suitable formats and olfactory profiles can then be evaluated through testing.
